Neighborhood Planning Meeting

Want to know future plans for development in the Rosewood neighborhood and along Rosewood Drive? Please join City of Columbia planning staff Thursday, February 16, at either 11:30 a.m. or 6:00 p.m., for a presentation of the results of the Rosewood Neighborhood and Corridor Planning Study, and their proposed recommendations to the Planning Commission.

Owens Field Park cleanup

Mark your calendars! On February 11, at 10:30 a.m., the Rosewood Community Council is sponsoring a cleanup of the woods in Owens Field Park. We need volunteers! You can join us for as long or as little as you’d like.

Please bring gloves and sturdy shoes. The city is providing bags and will haul off the trash when we’re through.

Women’s Self-Defense Class

Please join RCC and Sgt. White of the Columbia Police Department for a women’s self-defense class, Saturday, February 25th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The class will be held at the Edisto Discovery Center, 1914 Wiley St.

There is a limit to this class, so you must email jenna@rosewoodcommunity.com to reserve your seat. Wear comfortable clothes and avoid wearing jewelry.

Crime Watch Signs

You and your neighbors can purchase neighborhood crime watch signs (pictured left) for your street for $26.75 each. Signs will be mounted on existing stop signs if possible.

There is also a sign for an ”establishment” instead of “neighborhood” (pictured below) if you would like to purchase one for your business.

Community Crime Meeting

Homes in the Rosewood neighborhood and businesses on Rosewood Drive have seen an alarming number of dangerous crimes, such as armed robberies, in the last few months. The Rosewood Community Council is holding a special meeting Thursday, January 19th, at 6:30 p.m. dedicated solely to addressing crime.

Please join your neighbors, our city councilmember Dr. Gergel, Captain Sharp of the Columbia Police Department, and business owners from Rosewood Drive as we work together to try to curb this problem. The meeting will be held at the Hamilton-Owens Airport conference room, 1400 Jim Hamilton Blvd.

Burglaries in Rosewood

There have been more break-ins in Rosewood over the past week. Kingswood and Beltline are getting hit hard. Please be alert and call the cops at 252-2911 for non-emergencies or 911 for emergencies. Examples of suspicious behavior could be when you see suspicious someone driving unusually slow and circling the block or walking halfway down a driveway and then back up.

Rosewood Neighborhood Plan

The city has undertaken a Rosewood Neighborhood Plan to guide development in the Rosewood neighborhood and along Rosewood Drive. What do you want to see? More street lights? New development? Sidewalks? Please join us Thursday, December 15 for the second citizen input meeting. Have your voice heard! We will meet at the Edisto Park Discovery Center, 1914 Wiley Street, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. Both time frames cover the same information. An organized presentation by city staff will be followed by an informal workshop.
